China's Higher Education Press Chooses Manuscript Central for Online Journal Management
Beijing, CHINA, December 3, 2008 – The Scientific business of Thomson Reuters today announced that China’s Higher Education Press (HEP) has chosen Manuscript Central for the online journal management of ‘Frontiers of Computer Science in China’, a series of journals initiated and supported by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
As China’s leading education and academic publisher, HEP has a core editorial team of renowned experts and authors. Launched in January 2007, ‘Frontiers of Computer Science in China’ is part of the “Frontiers in China” quality journal series which aims to provide a forum for the publication of the best of China’s peer-reviewed papers in English to foster closer communication and exchange between authors in China and abroad. The “Frontiers in China” series is the most extensive English series of journals in China, both print and online, to cover the widest range of subjects including natural sciences, humanities and social sciences which span 24 important disciplines.
Manuscript Central will allow HEP to manage the entire online journal management process of this published series of scholarly research in China easily, thereby promoting closer engagement between Chinese authors and the international publishing and science community. The process comprises journal submission, peer review, tracking and editing-process control. Manuscript Central automates manuscript submission to journals and allows for easy and efficient administrative, editing and reviewing capabilities, so its customers can focus on content, not on process.
Manuscript Central is integrated with Scientific resources, EndNote Web and Web of Science®, the foremost multidisciplinary citation resource, into one seamless application for ease of use by authors, reviewers and editors. Editorial practices are simplified as authors can submit manuscripts using EndNote Web and link into ISI Web of Knowledge, Scientific’s premier research platform that offers users integrated access to high quality, multidisciplinary literature for discovery and research evaluation and includes Web of Science. Web of Science allows reviewers and editors to easily check manuscript references and search for new reviewers in the same specialty as the manuscript.
Presently, Manuscript Central is used by 12 million registered users worldwide comprising authors, reviewers and editors. By adopting a system that so many global researchers are familiar with, HEP aims to encourage authors, reviewers and editors to work with HEP journals. In addition, Manuscript Central has a wide variety and long list of academic journal titles, making it the preferred vendor. With over 280 societies and publishers, over 2,800 books and journals and 100,000 monthly submissions, Manuscript Central is the proven industry leader.
Said Ms Ding Haijia, Deputy Director of Academic Publishing Centre, HEP, ”We need an industry-proven professional system that is stable and user-friendly, so that we can offer all authors, reviewers and editors the most reliable platform to attract more of their international peers to work with them. Manuscript Central is the system that can satisfy our requirements very well and enable us to be part of the modern publishing world.”
Said Dr. David Liu, senior director and head of China Regional Business Unit, Scientific business of Thomson Reuters, “We are very pleased that Manuscript Central has been chosen by HEP to provide their entire workflow needs online and expect the system to enable ‘Frontiers of Computer Science in China’ to better attract more authors, reviewers and editors for collaboration which can help promote China’s latest computer science R&D internationally.”
Thomson Reuters recently launched ISI Web of Knowledge and EndNote Web in Simplified Chinese globally. The company plans to launch a Simplified Chinese version of Manuscript Central in February 2009 to help science researchers in China improve their published output and engagement with a wider audience.
